History
Fuelled by the wish to help their clients take more intelligent risks to manage the implications of the major recession that affected not just Asia, but also the European Union and subsequently the United States, a small team of determined and experienced fund managers came together in a single room during late 2000 and decided that they would build a better asset management firm. They shared a rigorous approach to clear thinking and fact-based, data-driven investing, as well as a passion for analysing and managing risk, and most importantly – a dedication to putting client needs and interests first.

Over the following two years, they remained relentless in their pursuit of like-minded individuals who had the same commitment to the values and beliefs, each of them recognised and respected professionals in their respective fields of risk management, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital, private equity and underwriting etc. All of them came together to form an investment management team and establish the infrastructure to position Bradbest Assets for the next bull market and beyond.

Harnessing the spirit of continuous improvement and innovation to craft solutions to meet evolving financial needs of customers, the firm initially focused primarily on fixed-income. By carefully listening to clients, considering their unmet needs and analysing their long-term goals, the firm was able to develop important early innovations related to closed-end funds, trusts, defined contribution plans and more. One of these was the Bradbest Assets Infrastructure Fund I, which raised EU€42.7 million by the end of the first year of its inception at the end of 2003 and established a path of stable growth and success for Bradbest Assets.

The firm began managing open-end mutual funds, including equity funds. Through its talented pool of people, Bradbest Assets also received access to networks and opportunities for diversification through alliances and mergers with affiliates specialising in equity and other investments.

While many companies were structured with autonomous business units, Bradbest Assets focused on developing multi-asset solutions by leveraging on team collaborations and tapping on the collective intelligence of their team to provide a range of client offerings into one unit, combining asset allocation and a host of product solutions that spanned asset classes.

By the start of 2008, Bradbest Assets had accumulated EU€216.6 m in assets under management and by the end of that year, that figure would grow to EU€323 million. Although the global economy tottered in the historic financial crisis of 2008, Bradbest Assets maintained its dividend and continued to strengthen fixed-income, equity and advisory businesses.

Managing fixed-income, equity and other businesses together, Bradbest Assets put in place a client-centric business model in which the entire firm’s resources and products can be leveraged for the benefit of clients.

Bradbest Assets further strengthens its focus in communication infrastructure and renewable power equity assets during this period, enabling it to offer its individual and institutional clients with a more diversified spectrum of investment solutions.

In 2012, Bradbest Assets creates the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) structure, uniting its corporate citizenship initiatives throughout the world.

While Bradbest Assets is headquartered in Singapore, its global perspective ensures that it maintains a global outlook and continues to expand its global footprint.

While the future is unpredictable – especially in an increasingly complex and uncertain world – Bradbest Assets is committed to making the benefits of financial services excellence accessible to every investor. By listening to clients and understanding their financial objectives and challenges, Bradbest Assets pledges to continuously improve and innovate by relying on its principles: service, expertise and integrity.

Investment Philosophy
The need for investment in infrastructure in the coming years remains considerable and investment is particularly needed to boost sectors including public transport, district heating & cooling, telecommunication ultra-high broadband networks, waste management, water treatment & distribution and clean power generation. The required levels of infrastructure investment cannot be funded by traditional sources of public finance alone.

To accelerate the push and bridge the infrastructure gap, institutional investors such as pension funds, insurance companies, venture capital and mutual funds, are expected to play a strong supportive role with a focus on desired outcomes – whether income, capital appreciation or a mix thereof. The need for private capital to replace aging infrastructure or fund new projects will consequently persist over the long term and will support a broad and growing range of infrastructure investment opportunities.
Strategic Sectors
Fluctuations in short-term spot commodity prices and the need to limit carbon emissions to reduce the risks of climate change are the driving forces behind the sustained growth of clean, reliable and affordable renewable power generation to make it one of the most active sectors for infrastructure investment. 2015 saw a new record for global investment in renewable energy, where the amount of money committed to renewables excluding hydro-electric projects rose 5% to $285.9 billion. Local authorities are seeking options to increase investments in more efficient wind and solar projects with increased capacity and as such the need to rely on private capital has grown. Within the developing-economy category, the “big three” of China, India and Brazil saw investment rise 16% to $120.2 billion, while “other developing” economies enjoyed a 30% bounce to $36.1 billion.

Strong end-user demand for communication infrastructure capacity and the exponential growth of volumes of data traffic leads to the necessity for the deployment of fibre optic high speed broadband communications networks to cope with the capacity and speed of data transfer now required by 4G and HD technologies. The roll-out requires massive investments which cannot be financed solely by telecom operators (in particular in low density areas). Communication infrastructure such as communication towers, fixed infrastructure, data centres, and related assets, is one of Bradbest Assets’ key focus sectors as these much-needed investments offer attractive stable returns well suited for institutional investors’ requirements.

Most European countries are opening up their public transport markets to break historical mono/duopolies upon request of local communities looking for more autonomy towards central governments. Inland infrastructure includes road, rail, inland waterways, maritime ports and airports and takes account of all sources of financing. Efficient transport infrastructure provides economic and social benefits to both advanced and emerging economies by: improving market accessibility and productivity, ensuring balanced regional economic development, creating employment, promoting labour mobility and connecting communities. Local communities are also focusing on improvement of the existing networks to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution attributable to private car traffic. through organic growth and collaborative add-on investments.
Assets in waste management, such as landfills, are expensive and require regulatory approval that can take years to obtain for operation or expansion, but their capability to generate steady revenue for years or even decades to come is undeniable especially as environmental awareness becomes more widespread. In Europe alone, each person currently uses 16 tonnes of material per year, out of which 6 tonnes become waste. As waste handlers are paid by volume, the more we buy - and the more we throw away – the more revenue dumps create for their owners. Reducing and managing the treatment of waste to convert them into useful chemicals and fuels is one of the key challenges and concerns of local communities today. Private operators and private investments are part of the European waste management landscape historically, where companies have higher probabilities of attaining wider market share either through exclusive contracts, vertical integration or asset positioning, and they have an important role to play going forward as well.

With government budgets constrained, Bradbest Assets is uniquely placed to help communities attract the long-term capital required to bring critical infrastructure to fruition. Bradbest Assets recognises the surging global need to build and renew infrastructure of which much funding will be needed from the private sector. Building on its extensive knowledge of infrastructure and real assets, Bradbest Assets positions itself as a strategic partner, investor and advisor, bringing both capital and management expertise to its portfolio companies. The assets are managed proactively, with a long-term perspective as well as dedicated focus on our clients’ objectives, by leveraging on the team’s extensive experience across sectors, geographies and asset life cycles, and its global network of relationships with infrastructure contractors, operators and public authorities.
Resposible Investment
All assets under the management of Bradbest Assets predominantly contribute to the shift towards a low carbon economy to better manage risk and generate sustainable, long-term returns, by incorporating environmental, social and governance factors into investment decisions:

- Public Transport, as it is the lifeblood of a city economy and there can be no smart city without an important role for public transport. Investment in public transport will provide climate-oriented, providing low-carbon alternatives to private car usage.

- Energy Supply, as the world moves towards the enabling of universal access to clean, sustainable and reliable energy and through assets that facilitate the harnessing of power through solar, wind, hydro and waste management projects, to critically reduce the use of fossil fuels and ultimately carbon footprint.

- Communication Infrastructure, as high speed fibre optic networks, equipment and servers provide highly efficient communication solutions which will allow the transformation of businesses and individuals into net contributors to CO2 emission reductions by lowering the dependency on carbon-based sources of communication, e.g. travel.
